India all-rounder Shardul Thakur, who went unsold at the IPL 2024 mega auction, might find a new home with the Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) in IPL 2025. This follows his recent appearance at the LSG camp, where he was spotted donning their training kit.

SHARDUL THAKUR’S IPL JOURNEY AND RECENT MOVE

Thakur, who was part of multiple IPL franchises in the past—Chennai Super Kings, Delhi Capitals, Kolkata Knight Riders, and the now-defunct Rising Pune Supergiants—had a rough season with CSK in IPL 2024. In that season, he only managed five wickets from nine matches and scored a mere 21 runs, prompting the franchise to release him ahead of the mega auction. Despite his experience, Thakur went unsold at the auction, even after his previous teams chose not to bid for him.

However, Thakur did not let the IPL setback deter him. He returned to domestic cricket and showcased his talent, playing an important role in Mumbai's triumph in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy. In nine matches, Thakur bagged 15 wickets at an average of 24.53. He then followed it up with a stellar performance in the Ranji Trophy, where he claimed 35 wickets in nine matches, with an impressive average of 22.62.

LUCKNOW SUPER GIANTS’ INJURY CONCERNS

The Lucknow Super Giants, currently facing a series of injury issues, could be eyeing Thakur as a potential addition to their squad for IPL 2025. The franchise’s Indian pacers—Mayank Yadav, Mohsin Khan, and Avesh Khan—are still waiting for clearance from the National Cricket Academy (NCA), with just days remaining before the season begins. To add to their woes, Australian all-rounder Mitchell Marsh has confirmed that he will only be available as a batter in the upcoming season due to a back injury.

SHARDUL THAKUR’S POTENTIAL MOVE TO LSG

Thakur’s recent appearance at LSG's training camp, where he was seen wearing the franchise’s training kit, has sparked rumours of a potential signing. The Mumbai cricketer also joined the team in celebrating Holi, further fueling speculations about his future with the franchise. While images of Thakur in the LSG kit circulated widely on social media, the franchise has yet to make an official announcement regarding his signing.

Given Lucknow’s ongoing injury concerns and Thakur’s recent form, he could be a valuable addition to the squad for IPL 2025, particularly as an experienced all-rounder. It remains to be seen whether the franchise will confirm his signing in the coming days.
