Indian cricket captain Virat Kohli scripted another chapter in his illustrious career on Friday, becoming the fourth Indian batsman to score 9,000 runs in Test cricket. The milestone was achieved during the first Test match against New Zealand in Bengaluru.

Kohli, often hailed as one of the greatest batsmen of his generation, reached the landmark in his 197th Test innings. His average of over 48 and 29 Test centuries highlight his exceptional consistency and class.

The 35-year-old's highest Test score is an unbeaten 254, which he achieved against South Africa in Johannesburg in 2013. He has also converted seven Test innings into double centuries, with the most recent coming against Sri Lanka in Delhi in 2017.

Despite falling short of a double century against Australia in Ahmedabad earlier this year, Kohli's innings showcased his resilience and determination. He spent over eight hours at the crease, scoring 186 runs.

Kohli joins the elite club of Indian batsmen who have reached the 9,000-run mark in Test cricket. Sachin Tendulkar leads the list with 15,921 runs, followed by Rahul Dravid (13,265) and Sunil Gavaskar (10,122).

However, Kohli is the quickest Indian to achieve this feat in terms of innings played.

In the ongoing Test match against New Zealand, Kohli was dismissed for a duck in the first innings. His early dismissal sparked debate among experts, with former Indian spinner Anil Kumble suggesting that Kohli should have batted at number four instead of number three.
