Ahead of the IPL 2025 mega auction, Gujarat Titans have announced the appointment of former Indian cricketer Parthiv Patel as the team’s new Assistant Coach. The announcement comes just days before the highly anticipated auction, which is set to take place on November 24-25, 2024, in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia.

PARTHIV PATEL’S APPOINTMENT

The Gujarat Titans, in an official statement, expressed their excitement about the inclusion of Parthiv Patel in their coaching staff. With a distinguished 17-year career as a wicketkeeper-batter for India, Patel brings vast experience and deep cricketing knowledge to the franchise.

"We are delighted to welcome Parthiv Patel as our new Assistant and Batting Coach. His vast experience, both as a former Indian cricketer and an IPL veteran, will add immense value to our team. Parthiv’s expertise, particularly in batting techniques and strategies, will play a key role in enhancing our players' skills," read the statement.

As a mentor and coach, Parthiv is expected to strengthen the team’s focus on player development, with an emphasis on improving batting techniques and tactical insights.

PARTHIV’S CRICKETING JOURNEY

Parthiv Patel made his debut for India at the age of just 17 in 2002. A part of the national team under Sourav Ganguly's captaincy, Parthiv featured in 15 Test matches and 10 One-Day Internationals (ODIs) between 2002 and 2004. He became known for his sharp wicketkeeping skills and his ability to anchor the innings as an opening batter.

In the Indian Premier League, Parthiv had a successful stint with Chennai Super Kings (CSK), where he was part of the 2010 IPL-winning team. He later moved to Mumbai Indians (MI), where he played a crucial role in their title wins in 2015 and 2017, showcasing his quick reflexes behind the stumps and his ability to provide vital contributions at the top of the order.

GUJARAT TITANS’ RETAINED PLAYERS AHEAD OF IPL 2025 AUCTION

Gujarat Titans have retained key players ahead of the IPL 2025 auction. Shubman Gill, their young captain, and Rashid Khan, the Afghan spin wizard, are among the retained players. Sai Sudharsan, a promising young talent, and Rahul Tewatia, a reliable all-rounder, are also part of the retained core. Shahrukh Khan, a powerful hitter, completes the list of retained players.

GUJARAT TITANS’ 2024 SEASON STRUGGLES

After a successful start to their IPL journey, finishing as champions in 2022 and runners-up in 2023, Gujarat Titans experienced a setback in the 2024 season. Despite retaining a core group of talented players, the team managed only five wins out of 14 matches, ending the season in the eighth position with 12 points.

With the addition of Parthiv Patel to their coaching staff and the retention of key players, the Titans are hoping to bounce back strongly in IPL 2025 and continue their growth as one of the most promising franchises in the league.

LOOKING AHEAD TO IPL 2025

As Gujarat Titans prepare for the IPL 2025 season, all eyes will be on how Parthiv Patel’s coaching style influences the team, especially in terms of player development and batting strategies. With key players like Gill and Rashid already in form, the addition of a seasoned expert like Patel could be the catalyst they need to return to the top of the IPL standings.
