Virat Kohli has etched his name in history once again, becoming the fastest cricketer to reach 14,000 runs in One Day Internationals (ODIs). This remarkable achievement came during India’s Champions Trophy 2025 match against Pakistan at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium.

KOHLI BREAKS TENDULKAR'S RECORD

Before the match began, Kohli needed just 15 runs to surpass the legendary Sachin Tendulkar’s record. The 36-year-old reached the milestone in style with a beautiful cover drive off Haris Rauf, which sent the ball racing to the boundary. He achieved the 14,000-run mark in his 287th innings, setting a new benchmark in ODI cricket history.

TOP-10 RUN-GETTERS IN ODI HISTORY

Virat Kohli's latest milestone places him among the top run-scorers in ODI history, with his continued dominance in the format leaving an indelible mark on the world

THE RECORD HOLDERS

Tendulkar, the first player to reach 14,000 runs in ODIs, did so in 350 innings (359 matches). He finished his illustrious career with 18,426 runs from 463 ODIs, which remains the most by any batter in the format. Kumar Sangakkara, the Sri Lankan legend, followed next, reaching the milestone in 378 innings (402 ODIs). He retired with 14,234 runs from 404 ODIs.

Kohli, who made his ODI debut in 2008, has now played 299 matches. During the 2023 ODI World Cup, he broke another record held by Tendulkar by scoring his 50th ODI century, the most by any player in the format’s history.

THE INDIAN SUPERSTARS’ RECENT FORM

Kohli has been known for his consistency over the years, with many considering him one of the finest players in limited-overs cricket. Although his form has dipped slightly in recent years, he was still the leading run-scorer in the 2023 ODI World Cup, accumulating a record 765 runs in the tournament – the most by any player in a single edition of the competition.

CHAMPIONS TROPHY 2025: INDIA VS PAKISTAN

In the ongoing Champions Trophy 2025, India started their campaign with an impressive six-wicket victory over Bangladesh. Meanwhile, Pakistan suffered a 60-run defeat against New Zealand.

In their match against Pakistan, India’s bowlers, including Kuldeep Yadav (3/40) and Hardik Pandya (2/31), restricted Pakistan to a modest total of 241 runs in 49.4 overs. Saud Shakeel top-scored for Pakistan with 62 runs, while Mohammad Rizwan contributed 46 runs.

As India looks to continue their strong run, their next match is against New Zealand in the group stages, while Pakistan will face Bangladesh in their final group match.
