Devon Conway was born and brought up in South Africa but later he made his move to New Zealand in 2017. He began his List-A career in South Africa in 2009 by playing for Gauteng and later made his first-class debut for them the following month.
In March 2019, he was named as the Men's Domestic Player of the Year at the annual New Zealand Cricket Awards.In October 2019, in the 2019–20 Plunket Shield season, Conway scored an unbeaten 327 for Wellington against Canterbury.
It was the ninth triple century in first-class cricket in New Zealand.He went on to score 393 runs in the match, the most number of runs scored in a single first-class match in New Zealand.
On 6 January 2020, in the 2019–20 Super Smash tournament, Conway scored an unbeaten century, from 49 balls. He was the leading run-scorer in the tournament, with 543 runs in eleven matches.He was also the leading run-scorer in the 2019–20 Ford Trophy, with 553 runs in ten matches,and the leading run-scorer in the 2019–20 Plunket Shield season, with 701 runs in six matches.
Conway made his IPL debut in 2022 after CSK roped in the New Zealand star for his base price of INR 1 crore at the Mega Auction. In 23 appearances for the franchise, he scored 924 runs at 48.63 with nine fifties. His best performance came last season, when he amassed 672 runs in 16 matches, laced with six fifties.
