A huge fan of former Pakistan pacer Mohammad Asif, Afghanistan’s Yamin Ahmadzai made his white-ball debuts quite early, in the 2015 season but it’s in the longest format that he has earned accolades as far as Afghanistan’s domestic cricket is concerned. A smooth and economical action and unerring accuracy around the off-stump channel are Yamin’s signature traits. He is also blessed with the ability to move the ball and this quality coupled with his discipline as a bowler makes him a competent resource in red-ball cricket. In his brief Test career so far, he’s already had three instances of three-wicket hauls, including two in his debut game (which was Afghanistan’s inaugural Test as well) against a formidable Indian batting line-up. It shall be interesting to see if Yamin features in Afghanistan’s limited-overs plans but he is surely one of their automatic picks as far as Test cricket is concerned. With more exposure, he could be a threatening all-round pacer. Written by Hariprasad Sadanandan
