In an interview conducted by Black Caps, Lea Tahuhu was asked: How did you get into cricket? And her answer: It was a primary school teacher that saw me mucking around at school and asked if I wanted to go along to his club and play properly. A tall right-arm fast bowler, Tahuhu came from Christchurch and played for Canterbury Magicians in the State League. She started playing domestic cricket since the age of 18 and within two years of her first-class debut, Tahuhu was included in the White Ferns squad. Tahuhu's first taste of international cricket was against rivals Australia in 2011, a trip she would not want to remember as she leaked plenty of runs and bagged very few wickets in return. However, with pace and age on her side, Tahuhu held on to her place in the squad and made it to the 2013 World Cup in India. She picked up 7 wickets in the tournament, which also included her career best 4 for 27 against Sri Lanka. Over a period of time Tahuhu turned into the leader of the pack and someone who her a captain can trust in crunch situations. The 2017 World Cup will be an important one for Tahuhu as she leads the White Ferns' attack and having not yet picked a 5-fer, she would be looking to set the record straight in the tournament.
