Son of a sub-inspector of police from Patuakhali, Kamrul Islam Rabbi is a Bangladeshi fast bowler who came into the limelight on the back of impressive performances in the Under-19 team since 2009. He took four-wicket hauls against Pakistan and Sri Lanka, a feat that earned him a place in the team for the 2010 U-19 World Cup. He had made his first-class debut at a very young age for Barisal Division against Sylhet Division in 2008. His role model is Wasim Akram. In the 2010 Under-19 World Cup, he completed a hat-trick against Ireland which helped Bangladesh win the Plate Championship. Though he was in the 14-member squad for the Zimbabwe series in November 2015, he wasn't given a game. After 47 first-class games, Rabbi made his Test debut against a touring England team in October 2016. All he managed was a lone wicket in the 2-match series which was spin-dominant. He didn't have a great time with the ball visiting New Zealand in early 2017. He hasn't made his mark at the international arena yet, but with age on his side, it is just a matter of time before he tastes success.By Abhinand Raghavendran
