Born in Gujarat, India, Jeet Raval is a left-handed opening batsman who made his Test debut for New Zealand in 2016. The southpaw is from the same school in Gujarat which Parthiv Patel attended. Interestingly, both Raval and Patel have opened together for their school in early days. A heavy run scorer in New Zealand's domestic circuit, Raval earned a Test call up as he scored in excess of 1000 runs at an average of nearly 60 in the 2015-16 season for Auckland. Raval who is well known for his batting technique against seam bowling isn't that great a player when it comes to spin bowling. Indians are usually good players against spin but Raval has no expertise of the dexterity that most of the sub-continent batsmen have. He moved to New Zealand after the age of 16, hence his susceptibility against spinning conditions comes in as a surprise. Before moving to New Zealand, Raval also represented the Gujarat Under-15 and Under-17 teams. As he had a great technique and a solid defensive game, he was often compared to Rahul Dravid by his Auckland team mates. The left-handed opener has played along with Indian players like Ajinkya Rahane and Ravindra Jadeja in his under-15 days and considers Sourav Ganguly as his idol. Though Jeet plays for Auckland Aces at present, he has also represented the Central Districts Stags in one of the seasons. Jeet had a decent Test debut against Pakistan where he scored 55 in his first innings, but hasn't played any impressive knock since then. In his 10-odd Tests, Raval is yet to score a century, with his highest Test score being 88 that came against South Africa. Out of all the oppositions he has played against, Raval has enjoyed batting against the Proteas as he boasts an average of 64.00 against them. Raval usually prefers to bat in the first innings of a Test match when he averages close to 60 but struggles to get going in the second, third and fourth innings of a Test where his averages drop significantly.
